Stand Out with the Fashion Promotion Concentration
The Fashion Promotion concentration of the Fashion Merchandising program is geared toward our students interested in careers in fashion public relations or advertising, event production, ecommerce, and online promotion. The concentration enhances and augments your educational experience with hands-on exposure to the industry, giving you a competitive edge when you enter the field.

Meet Marist's First Ralph Lauren Scholar
Angel Macias Madrigal brings a special story to Marist. Angel has an impressive background in both fashion and activism, dating back to his accomplishments in high school in Los Angeles. He arrives at Marist as the first Ralph Lauren Scholar, having been awarded a four-year scholarship from the world-renowned fashion company.
"I'm very grateful for this unique opportunity. Being mostly self-taught in sewing and design, I never imagined earning such a prestigious award," said Angel. "This scholarship allows me to pursue my passion for fashion and also explore academic interests, like psychology. I'm eager to take advantage of the mentorship and internship opportunities, and I hope to represent and uplift Indigenous communities through my work in fashion."

Apply Classroom Theory In Practice
The Fashion Promotion curriculum not only incorporates Communication and PR coursework into your educational plan, but it integrates with the Fashion majors by teaching you about these principles as they apply to the fashion industry. You’ll continue to have access to leading faculty in Fashion, but now you’ll also be working with leading faculty in Communication, Public Relations, Advertising. You’ll take courses such as:
Gain Skills That Will Increase Your Impact In The Fashion Industry

Fashion Theory
Gain a foundational-level understanding of fashion trend theories; begin to effectively anticipate, understand, and utilize basic terminology used to describe fashion, garments and textiles; and explain the process of apparel production from concept.

Retail Ecommerce Insights
Recognize proper design and function of websites including, marketing, customer service, and order fulfillment. Explain benefits of search engine optimization, user experience, affiliate and email marketing, and digital advertising.

Concept Board Development
Learn the ability to develop trend concept boards for visual presentation in order to convey inspiration, color, fabrics, styling, and key items.

Fashion Trend Forecasting & Analysis
Understand theory and practice components for forecasting fashion and use professional case studies to demonstrate each technique and concept. Learn the mechanics and functions of trends and responsibilities of the Fashion Forecaster.

Social Media Insights
Examine elements of social media with a focus on the fashion industry. Study the impact of social media on the fashion business, emerging trends, influencers, and best practices.

Brand Strategies
Develop a clear understanding of the impact of brands and licenses on media, advertising, and fashion in today’s digital age. Be able to differentiate between perception, process, and practice in the development of new brands.
Cutting-Edge Fashion Facilities
At Marist, we’re determined to provide not only the educational but the physical tools to promote your success and preparedness to enter to fashion industry. Along with our Textile Design Lab and the MakerLab, Fashion Merchandising students perhaps get the most use and experience out of MPorium: our on-campus entrepreneurial boutique stocked and operated by our Fashion Merchandising students. Functioning as a retail laboratory, MPorium gives you the opportunity to delve into the nuances required for running and maintaining a fashion enterprise, including Human Resource Management/Staffing, Customer Service, Marketing, Visual Merchandising, and Merchandise Planning & Control.

Front Row and Backstage at Milan Fashion Week
Marist students got a front-row seat and backstage access to one of the most exclusive fashion events in the world — Milan Fashion Week. Nearly two dozen students studying fashion design, fashion merchandising, and global marketing communications were immersed in what’s considered one of the "big four" global fashion events. Through Marist's partnership with Italian designer Francesca Liberatore, hands-on learning at premiere industry events has helped make Marist’s Fashion Program among the best in higher education.
